September 2011

Railroad Maintenance on bridge over Quarry Street

The railroad will be performing maintenance on the railroad track bridge over Quarry Street this week and as such Quarry will be closed during the hours of 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. every day.  Work is anticipated to be complete at the end of the day Friday, September 30, 2011.

August 2011

Asphalt Overlay Project in the Klamath Union High School Area

The City Streets Division in conjunction with local contractor Webb Asphalt, will be performing asphalt overlay on several streets in the Klamath Union High School area. The streets included in the project are Cross Street, Monclaire Street and North Alameda Avenue. Work will begin on Tuesday, August 23, 2011 and will be completed by August 30, 2011. Each street will be closed during paving.

Auburn Street from Laguna to Damont and then on Damont Street

Starting August 2, 2011 City crews will be performing an asphalt overlay on Auburn Street from Laguna to Damont and then on Damont Street. Work is expected to be complete by August 4, 2011. These streets will be closed while this work is being done.

Lakeport Boulevard Closure

In order to replace a power pole that was damaged over the weekend, it is necessary for City Street crews to close Lakeport Boulevard from Biehn Street to Montelius Street on July 13, 2011 from 1:00 p.m. to approximately 2:30 p.m.

6th Street Bridge Project 

The City of Klamath Falls Public Works Department is contracting with Roger Langeliers Construction to perform maintenance work on the new bridge joints placed last fall on the Sixth Street Bridge southeast of downtown Klamath Falls.

Work on the bridge will be performed during the daylight hours daily beginning Tuesday, July 5, 2011, until the project is complete, which is anticipated to be Thursday, July 7, 2011. The dates and times are subject to change if unforeseen circumstances arise. Traffic will be restricted to one travel lane in each direction during construction.

City staff appreciates the public’s patience during this project. The contractor, Roger Langeliers Construction, will be partnering with the City to minimize inconveniencing the public wherever possible.

3rd Street Closure

Each Wednesday, until AUgust 10th, South Third Street between Main and Klamath Avenues will be closed to traffic from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in order to provide safety for children attending the library's summer reading program.

Performers, craft days and a street fair are part of the activities the library provides for children each Wednesday morning throughout the program. The library doors are open at 10:00 a.m. only to children and their caregivers who are attending the summer reading program. The library opens to all at the regularly scheduled time on Wednesdays at 1:00 p.m. After August 10th, Third Street will re-open on Wednesday mornings.

June 2011

Upham and Prospect Streets Grind and Inlay

On Monday, June 27, 2011, crews will begin the grind and inlay of asphalt on Upham Street from 11th Street to Oregon Avenue and Prospect Street from Upham to North 9th Street. These streets will be closed to through traffic. Detour routes will be in effect. This work is expected to be completed by July 1, 2011.

Road Striping

Starting June 21, 2011 and continuing through June 25, 2011, the City of Klamath Falls Street Division paint crews will continue road stripe maintenance. The crew will be starting at the south end of Washburn Way during the early morning hours and will work their way north and into the downtown corridor. Motorists can expect some short lane closures during this time.

George Nurse Way (Veterans' Park) - Asphalt Maintenance

George Nurse Way (Veterans’ Park) will be closed to thru traffic beginning June 15, 2011 and continuing through June 16, 2011 so that City crews can perform asphalt maintenance in the areas of the train and Veterans’ Memorial. The park will still be accessible from the west end.

Also, the 500 block of Adams Street will be closed to thru traffic beginning June 20, 2011 and continuing through June 23, 2011 so that City crews can perform road repairs in this area. Local traffic will have access as needed but may experience some occasional delays.

May 2011

Tunnel Closure

Beginning Monday, May 23, 2011 and continuing through Saturday, May 28, 2011, the tunnel at Lakeport Boulevard and Quarry Street will be closed for repairs to the roadway and drainage system in and around the area. Traffic will need to use Highway 97 for access to the area during this time.

Work is subject to weather and availability of asphalt.
