Mission Statement:
We commit to objectively evaluate with openness and transparency, options for the long-term viability of public safety. Our goal will be to advocate for the solution that best ensures a cost effective and complete public safety system for our community’s future.
Survey Review Talking Points
In review of the public notes section of the surveys provide by Citizens for Public Safety, there was a few resounding comments.
1. Consolidation
Press Releases
- Why is consolidation such a bad word in Klamath County?
- Is this a power building issue, control issue or local personality issue?
- Is it possible to consolidate operations through policy and procedure and still realize the traditional operational efficiency increases and cost savings?
2. Restoring/Increasing Neighborhood Watch
Meeting Minutes & Agendas
- Which neighborhoods have these in place?
- Is there an area map of these?
3. Taxing District
- Why would this option take so long?
- This does not solve the Gross Tax revenue issue.
4. Economic (Industry)
- Increasing tax base by enticing companies to move here.
- What is city/county doing to advertise these opportunities?
- Deeper labor pool at this time.
- Property tax rates are relatively low even with upward pressure
- Land prices are relatively low
- Construction costs are relatively low and resources plentiful
- Access to transportation (Air, Rail, Road) is stable
5. Review
- Why not a LEAN study on the entire system?
- What is management afraid of?
6. Become proactive
- If there is an ambulance advisory board, why not for other groups?
- Why not a permanent Public Safety Advisory Board, similar to budget?
- Why not permanent Advisory boards for separate assets (Fire/Jail/Etc)
7. Rural involvement
- Why is there not a representative from Malin, Merril, etc…?
- What do these area’s expect?
- What are our service coverage’s, can we visualize on a map?
8. Outsourcing
- Can we outsource rural patrols?
9. Fee Increases
- Can we increase fees on tickets, court cost and other fee based issues where public safety is involved?
10.What is the positive of annexation?
11.What is the negative of annexation?
12. How are the counties assets managed?
- Capital asset management
- Preventative asset management
13.Will the unions engage in helping to resolve the fiscal crisis?
14. Are there other funding sources?
15. Is there a clear timeframe?
